1st Northbridge Scout Group sailing ahead
The year kicked off with plenty of activity for the Cubs, who meet once per week on a Wednesday, either at the Scout Hall next to Northbridge Public School, or at the group’s boat shed adjacent to the Northbridge Sailing Club. Thanks to plenty of great weather, the Cubs were fortunate to make the most of boating opportunities prior to daylight savings ending, practicing canoeing, recovery after capsizing and racing from a beach start. These skills were put to good use at the Sirius Cup paddling event at Balmoral beach in March, during which Northbridge Cubs competed against other Cub groups.
When not on the water, the Cubs have been working towards earning badges aligned with cycling, community service and outdoor adventuring. They were keen helpers on Clean Up Australia Day once again this year, helping keep Clive Park beautiful.
One of the highlights of the Cubs calendar this year has been their visit with SES Naremburn, with volunteers taking the time to teach the cubs about how the emergency service works and demonstrating their equipment, including their vehicles. The visit came just weeks before the major Sydney storm which resulted in 3000 calls to the SES, further exemplifying the importance of this crucial service.
